Vanja BASIC

“Bonjour everyone, My name is Vanja BASIC and I am a French graphic designer and illustrator. I have drawn literally since I knew how to hold a pencil in my hand. As an only child, drawing has always been my way of escaping and expressing myself. From the age of 8 to 20, I took oil painting and pencil classes to improve my skills. Technique is really important to me; I have always admired M. C. Escher for his. Several years later, during my global design studies, I found both my style and my favourite mediums, by discovering graphic design. I fell in love with this discipline and it has greatly influenced the way I apprehend my drawing sheet and my lines. Today, in my illustrations, I love combining drawing on paper with digital colorisation. I draw exclusively with black ink, using brush and tubular felt pens. Then I use Photoshop to bring colour, through collages or flat colours. Pop art inspires me a lot in my use of colours. I adore impressionism as well. This movement has definitely influenced the way I draw, with urgency. That’s what I love most about art, the raw capture of an emotion.”
