Khalidah Carrington
Khalidah Carrington is a Visual Artist who has recently earned her Associate’s Degree at the State University of New York at Dutchess Community College’s Visual Arts program. With a minimalistic point of view, Carrington’s work focuses on expressing one’s innermost beauty through light, shadow, and the uniqueness of the human body. Carrington relies on the juxtaposition of lines to create balance, and unity throughout her portraits. As Carrington reveals her subjects strengths and weaknesses, she calls on them to be the focus of many of her pieces including her self-portraits. As a child, Carrington recalls always having a love for art and being homeschooled played a part in this. This love intensified while taking classes with artist Gerardo Castro, who she now considers a lifelong friend. Carrington hopes to one day own a social media marketing, management, and production company, that gears towards helping creatives of colour like herself achieve their goals.
